Veteran of the Month
The Veteran of the Month is an award presented to a veteran chosen by members of the Johnson County Senior Center. The chosen veteran is recognized during the Veterans' Cafe (first Wednesday of each month) and awarded a plaque paid for by Johnson County Bank.

Army veteran Gloria Hackler, an E-4 Specialist from Creston, North Carolina, proudly served three years on active duty followed by three years in the Army Reserve. Inspired by her father, she completed Basic Training at Fort Jackson and Advanced Individual Training at Aberdeen Proving Ground before serving in South Korea, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and Hawaii, where she worked in supply and office operations.
Gloria is most proud of completing a 15-mile road march while carrying a full rucksack. One memory that still makes her smile is seeing Republic of Korea soldiers standing shirtless in below-zero weather while she was bundled up in a heavy "bear suit."
After leaving active duty, Gloria became a homemaker and mother while continuing her service in the Army Reserve. She is the daughter of Judy Lewis and the late Welze Farmer and the proud mother of Elizabeth Hackler.
Today, Gloria enjoys music, antiquing, selling items online, and exercising. Her advice to younger generations is:
"Education is the key to the future. You have to stick with what you want to do."

Thank you, veterans, for your service to your country, community, and families!
We truly appreciate our veterans!
