Veteran of the Month
The Veteran of the Month is an award presented to a veteran chosen by members of the Johnson County Senior Center. The chosen veteran is recognized during the Veterans' Cafe (first Wednesday of each month) and awarded a plaque paid for by Johnson County Bank.

After graduating high school in 1957, Jack Slimp joined the Air Force. Most of his 20-year career was as Air Traffic Controller where he attained the rank of Master Seargeant, MSGT. He was stationed in seven states, Greenland, Southeast Asia, and was in Germany when the Berlin Wall was completed. After retiring from the Air Force, Jack worked for the Bureau of Land Management. He and his wife of 57 years, Sue, moved to Butler to help with aging family. She passed away in 2015. Jack has three children, eight grandchildren, and several great grandchildren.
